Pending Legislation
The American Society of Mechanical Engineers has published a standard qualification for fossil fuel operators to meet the Clean Air Act of 1990.

Career Improvement
Because the health and safety of many people depend upon the proper operation and functioning of engineering equipment, an engineer must operate and maintain equipment according to state and local laws and codes. As a lower grade power engineer, they are under the general direction of a chief engineer or engineer holding a higher grade license whose license is equal to or above the requirements needed to operate the plant. They are to perform those duties prescribed by the higher grade engineer. As they advance their licenses through experience and study, they become qualified to take charge of an entire engineering plant operation. Through on-the-job training and application of study courses, a power engineer attains the skills and knowledge required.

Demonstrate Worth and Stability in Job Market
Once licensed power engineers demonstrate their worth and stability in the job marketplace by having clearly established a level of competency.

Provide School Curricular Accreditation
The board will establish a list of subjects covering the experiences and technical knowledge required for each classification. Examinations are based on the proper curricula for all grades. By using these guides and text books suggested, any candidate can prepare for current examinations.
